INDIVIDUAL COUNSELLING

Are you currently facing barriers in your job search? Do you feel that a disability may be hindering your success in finding employment? If so, The WorkPlace may be able to help. We value the diversity of the clients we serve and recognize the need for flexibility in addressing individual needs. Our counselling staff work individually with clients to assess their skills and strengths and develop a return to work action plan designed to assist them in reaching “WorkPlace” success. We offer specific expertise in assisting clients with disabilities in their job search process. Confidentiality is assured.



JOB DEVELOPMENT

We offer the services of a Job Development team to assist clients with disabilities connect with potential employers.

What is a Job Developer?

A Job Developer provides support to a client with the goal of leading that person into successful participation in the labour market.  The Job Developer may find or develop employment or workplace training opportunities; assist in job negotiations; develop job descriptions with employers to remove disability-related barriers; or assist in  the provision of employee modifications. This support is offered to eligible clients on an individual basis who have met with an Employment Counsellor and identified job development as a necessary support.

WORKSHOPS

Registered job seekers have the opportunity to take part in both our Key Ingredients to Employment (K.I.T.E) and Interview Skills workshops which are geared to helping people find work.

Our workshops are offered in a group setting which encourages our clients to explore their strengths through group participation. Workshops involve presentations, small group discussions, individual activities and a wide range of instructional aids.

Interview Workshop
This one day workshop provides participants with the crucial skills needed to conduct a "Hire -ME" interview. Topics that will be discussed are: making a good first impression, current hiring practices, developing a 30 second summary of skills and qualifications to assist participants in the interview process, as well as interview follow up tips. Participants will be invited to engage in a recorded mock interview to assist with the development of effective two-way conversation. Typical interview questions and how to develop winning questions to ask employers will also be covered.

K.I.T.E. – Key Ingredients to Employment
This is a 4 day confidence-building and informative workshop to assist participants with their job search. Topics that will be discussed are:

  • Personality Assessments – designed to assist the participant in determining their transferable skills, preferred work environments, problem solving abilities.
  • Self Esteem/Motivation - self confidence building through the job application process, facing challenges and building esteem, tips to stay on track and motivated in your job search.
  • Employment Maintenance - being prepared for your first day, first week, first month on the job, dealing with challenges with co-workers and supervisors, social skills at work.
  • The Job Market - understanding how it works and the hidden job market. Learn how to Job Search on the Internet.
  • Marketing Approaches - 4 basic methods to identifying jobs, answering advertisements, approaching employment agencies and companies.
  • Networking - Do’s and don’ts, preparing a list of networking contacts.
  • Cover Letters - How to make yourself stand out, two types – cover and broadcast letters, when to use each type.
  • CHOICES – Career Assessment Software.
